You read that right.
The New York Giants Yankees (36-27) beat the New York Jets Mets (32-29) by a score of 15-0.
Johan Santana did not have his best stuff. In fact, he had his worst stuff. His worst career start, to the tune of nine earned runs in three-plus innings. He walked two and struck out three. Santana was removed after only 60 pitches. His velocity was down, usually off by three to five miles per hour.
Not good. Not good at all. He told reporters afterward that he was “sore.” Likely story.
Brian Stokes made his first appearance in nine days, allowing four earned runs to score in two innings of work. Jon Switzer allowed two runs in 1 1-3 innings.
Stokes will likely not pitch again until they face the Yankees again in two weeks.
The Mets bats were quieted by a very impressive performance by A.J. Burnett. Gary Sheffield picked up two hits as the designated hitter. David Wright stretch his hitting streak to 10 games with a single. Unfortunately, his multiple hit streak ended at six.
Can someone explain why Sheffield, who will be getting an MRI on a gimpy right knee played an entire game in a 15-0 game? Sure, he was just DH-ing, but still.
Johan Santana couldn’t get an out in the fourth inning, and was removed after sixty pitches.
Does Santana need an MRI? His velocity was noticeably down as the game progressed. Keep an eye on it.
I just tweeted this and thought it was fitting: "I wonder if Johan Santana is sitting in the clubhouse asking everyone that passes him, 'Am I a man? Am I a man?'"
Santana’s final line: 3+ IP, 9 H, 9 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
You might want to talk to Joba about his celebrations. They’re getting a little tired.
Just sayin’…
Rubber game!

The Mets have landed outfielder Javier Castillo from the Chicago White Sox, according to Adam Rubin. Castillo will report to Triple-A Buffalo.
Castillo was hitting .262 with two home runs and 15 RBI with the Charlotte Knights, the White Sox Triple-A affiliate.
In a corresponding move, the Bisons released Jason Cooper, who had been with the Bisons since 2004.
Rubin also notes that Tobi Stoner has been promoted to Triple-A Buffalo.
Here’s the Mets lineup for the Subway Series finale, with Johan Santana on the mound for the Mets.
Could have been two.
The New York Mets (32-28) beat the New York Yankees (35-27) by a score of 6-2.
Fernando Nieve, making his first start for the New York Mets, turned out a spectacular performance. Six and two-third innings, Nieve allowed only four hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out two.
Nieve allowed a solo home run to Alex Rodriguez in the second inning. Another run was charged to Nieve when Sean Green relieved him in the seventh inning.
Just a shocking start from Nieve. Did not see that one coming, that’s for sure.
Green turned in 1 1-3 innings, allowing only one hit while striking out one.
Francisco Rodriguez struck out one in the 9th inning, sealing the game in a non-save situation.
The Mets got on the board early, the second inning, with a two-run shot off the bat of Omir Santos.
Four hits drove in three runs for the Mets in the fifth inning. Gary Sheffield and Santos each picked up RBI hits and Fernando Tatis hit an RBI groundout.
Sheffield added to the lead in the 7th with a solo home run to left field.
Sheffield went 2-5 with two RBI and a run scored on the same day it was announced he would be getting an MRI on his ailing right knee. Interesting.
