The Mets are keeping as many arms as possible at the Major League level. Rumors were that Elmer Dessens would be sent down when Oliver Perez was ready to come back.
Instead, they sent down a position player.
Argenis Reyes was optioned back to Triple-A Buffalo to make roster room for Perez.
Perez will be making his sixth start of the season tomorrow against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is 1-2 with a 9.97 ERA and 2.262 WHIP in 21 2-3 innings.
Jose Reyes returned to New York for another cortisone injection for his right hamstring, Omar Minaya revealed today. Carlos Beltran, who was expected back after the All-Star break, will not be evaluated until the break.
The Mets had expected both players back relatively soon, but neither looks promising.
Minaya also said he believes the players currently on the roster are good enough to win.

Angel Pagan, rehabbing from a strained left groin, played in his first game last night for the St. Lucie Mets. He went 1-3 with a run scored.
Pagan could return to the Mets as early as next week. It would be a nice upgrade over the clearly-overmatched Fernando Martinez.
After busting out to a .333 / .429 start with the Mets, the injury prone outfielder went down with another malady.
I’d like to see him back with the Mets and soon. He’s not exactly a game-changer, but he can’t hurt.
The Mets are at the halfway point of their season - 81 games played, 81 to go. David Wright has had a strange statistical season so far.
Starting today and going through the rest of the season, I will be tracking and charting some stats on Wright’s 2009 season. As of right now I will present his AVG, OBP and SLG in a combined line chart and his strikeouts per game in another. I will also break down his hits (singles, doubles, triples, home runs) in a pie chart.
If you have any suggestions for something else to track, please let me know.
